About Redact PDF
Redact PDF targets true removal of sensitive text from PDFs using OCR-aware replacement, not just drawing black rectangles that sometimes fail under copy-paste. Government filings, FOIA responses, HR investigations, and healthcare releases require redaction workflows that strip underlying text layers. This tool accepts optional word or pattern lists plus an OCR language so it can find and replace matches across scanned and digital pages alike.
Redaction is serious: a missed Social Security number or patient ID can trigger breaches and fines. Always open the output PDF and try selecting previously sensitive areas to confirm nothing leaks. Patterns and comma-separated keywords should be tested on non-production samples first.
Large PDFs may need splitting for upload constraints. After redaction, Protect PDF can add another layer if distribution must be limited. Pair with OCR PDF first when scans lack a text layer and automated replacement misses content.
Use this only on documents you are authorized to modify. Consult legal counsel for court-quality redaction standards—some jurisdictions mandate specific tools and certifications. Highly classified material should never pass through a general-purpose web service; offline certified redaction suites are mandatory there.
