About PDF to PDF/A
PDF/A is an ISO-standardized subset of PDF meant for long-term archiving: fonts and color profiles are embedded more strictly, and features that break future rendering—like certain scripts or external dependencies—are restricted. Libraries, government archives, and quality systems often require PDF/A when documents must remain readable decades later without proprietary secrets.
This PDF to PDF/A tool converts typical office PDFs toward an archival profile (your form may allow an optional profile hint such as PDF/A-2b). Not every flashy PDF feature survives; transparency and multimedia may be flattened or rejected depending on the target profile. Always validate the output with a PDF/A checker in regulated environments—online conversion is a convenience, not a certified archive pipeline by itself.
Before conversion, ensure fonts are embedded in the source and that sensitive content is already correct; PDF/A is not a redaction tool. After conversion, store checksums or version metadata if your records policy requires provable integrity.
Pair with OCR PDF when scans must become searchable archival text. If the PDF is password-protected, unlock it first when you hold the password. Highly sensitive archives may need on-premises conversion instead of cloud services—follow your retention and privacy rules.
